NBA star LaMelo Ball is being slammed on social media after saying he leaves all diaper-changing duties for his infant son to his girlfriend, insisting the responsibility is “not my job.”

The 25-year-old made the remarks in an interview with Ernie Johnson and the rest of the crew on TNT’s NBA Tip-Off, where the discussion turned to Ball’s new role as a father.

Johnson asked LaMelo Ball if he changes diapers for his 9-month-old son, LaOne, whom he shares with his longtime girlfriend, Ana Montana, real name: Analicia Chaves.

“Oh, nah ” Ball answered. “My girl does all that.”

Ball said he and Montana have an agreement on how to handle their parenting duties. “We have a game plan ” he said, adding that both know what they bring to the home.

Even though LaMelo Ball said he had changed diapers before, he made it clear that he doesn’t consider it his responsibility.

“I did it before, but it is just not my job ” he said.

LaMelo Ball’s Comments About Diapers Cause Online Discussion

His words quickly spread online, prompting criticism from people questioning how Ball is handling fatherhood. According to InTouch, some fans criticized the new Minnesota Timberwolves star for saying his girlfriend should be the one to change the baby’s diapers.

Those who disagreed with his take said that both parents should take care of a baby, no matter how much money each makes. Other people supported LaMelo Ball, saying couples usually split household duties based on what works for them. Some said that if Ball and Montana are happy with how they are doing things, other people shouldn’t tell them how to raise their child.

The discussion mainly focused on whether Ball’s words showed agreement between the parents about how to raise the child or whether they showed that he didn’t want to take part in caring for the baby.

LaMelo Ball and Ana Montana Had a Baby Earlier This Year

LaMelo Ball and Ana Montana started dating in 2021. They officially became a couple on Instagram in June 2023, according to Page Six. They welcomed their son together in January 2026, but didn’t tell the public about the baby until May. In a message celebrating their son’s arrival, the couple said being parents changed their lives and brought them meaning and joy.

Meanwhile, Ball is also starting a new chapter of his basketball career after joining the Timberwolves following six years with the Charlotte Hornets. He scored 21 points in Wednesday’s game against the Miami Heat. However, his comments about being a father have sparked as much talk as his on-court performance.
