Lane Kiffin is very intentional with his activity on social media. Not only does the 48-year-old college football coach often crack jokes at the expense of others, he does not play around when it comes to misinformation.

Kiffin will always set the record straight and appeared to do so on Sunday evening.

Virginia Tech tight end Daequan Wright was in Oxford to visit Ole Miss over the weekend after entering the transfer portal. The former four-star recruit ultimately committed to the Rebels while in town after catching 28 passes for 366 yards in 2023.

A separate, unrelated discussion led Kiffin to tease the commitment on Friday. Auburn saw four of its top coaches leave the program or get fired, and there was thought that Hugh Freeze would poach longtime Ole Miss staffer Derrick Nix. Those rumors were put to bed with one simple photo.

In the background of Kiffin’s post was film study of a game between Boston College and Virginia Tech. The Rebels were watching tape of Wright.

However, one national media member quipped that it must be an uneventful night to be watching the Eagles.

Is Lane watching BC tape? Must be a slow day.

That was not the case. Kiffin and company were studying their soon-to-be new tight end.

The head coach let everybody know that his staff was not having a “slow day” shortly after the commitment became official. He is very intentional and reposted the following:

Kiffin did not directly respond to Gorney or the other folks that questioned his process. They were confused as to why the Ole Miss staff would spend their Friday night watching a game between Boston College and Virginia Tech.

There was a reason. There is always a reason.

Lane Kiffin is the portal king and everything he does, including social media, has meaning. Don’t ever doubt the process!
