On Monday, Auburn officially announced it had found a new head coach for its football program in the form of Hugh Freeze, who will be making his grand return to the SEC after he was forced to resign from Ole Miss in 2017 when an investigation into recruiting violations snowballed into an even bigger scandal after officials discovered he had a habit of making calls to an escort service on a university-issued phone.
Freeze eventually found a new home (and a fair amount of success) at Liberty. However, his time there wasn’t without controversy thanks to allegations he DMed a woman who filed a lawsuit accusing the school of fostering a toxic culture and downplaying sexual assault claims levied against student-athletes.
While Freeze’s track record didn’t stop Auburn from welcoming him into the fold, it appeared the school was taking at least one precaution to avoid yet another headache thanks to a report that claimed the contract contained a clause that prohibited their new coach from running his own social media accounts.
During his introductory press conference on Tuesday, Freeze denied that was the case before claiming he’d voluntarily ceded control of his online kingdom to someone else a few weeks ago, which didn’t exactly do wonders to quash the speculation he’s now legally required to Log Off.
He also wasted no time stirring the pot after joining the Tigers, as he used that gathering as an excuse to take a thinly-veiled shot at Ole Miss while discussing the current state college football.
Hugh Freeze on Auburn: "I feel like this is, no offense to another school or anything, but I feel like I've leapfrogged where I was at that time (Ole Miss) by being in this family and this culture here. … I see this as one of the top 10 football programs in the nation."

It’s safe to say that did not sit well with current Ole Miss Coach Lane Kiffin, who had nothing but nice things to say about Freeze around a year ago but seized on the chance to treat us to the hottest new beef in the SEC streets when he fired back on Twitter on Wednesday morning.
@OleMissFB I would tweet at you but I guess you aren’t allowed to respond by @AuburnFootball 👼 now https://t.co/NF3h0Bwyud pic.twitter.com/3isGCkxUMd

Auburn will head to Oxford to take on Ole Miss on October 21, 2023, and that day cannot come soon enough.
