Auburn Reportedly Has So Little Trust In New Head Coach Hugh Freeze That They’ve Given Him A Babysitter

The Auburn Tigers would do just about anything to have a run of success on the football field similar to what Alabama has had under Nick Saban.

While the Tigers themselves have won a national championship in that span and played for another, it pales in comparison to the success had by their hated local rivals.

In that time period, Auburn has chewed up and spit out a handful of head coaches. The latest of which was Bryan Harsin, whom it fired less than two years after hiring him. To dig themselves out of the hole they’d created, the Tigers first turned their attention to Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin. But Kiffin turned away their advances and stayed with the Rebels in Oxford.

Instead, Auburn turned its attention to another former Ole Miss coach. The Tigers announced the hiring of oft-embattled Liberty head coach Hugh Freeze on Monday. Freeze comes back to the SEC with a laundry list a mile long of scandals hanging over his head.

He also has a sordid history of using social media to harrass alleged victims of sexual assault. But the Tigers aren’t too concerned about either of those things as long as Freeze can help win a lot of football games, which is yet to be seen.

In the interim, it appears even they know that their new head coach has to be babysat.

Hugh Freeze’s Auburn Contract Includes Clause About Giving Up Control Of Social Media

Because Freeze just can’t help himself on social media (to be fair, who among us?), Auburn reportedly included some interesting language in his new contract.

“Multiple sources say Freeze has agreed to relinquish control of his social media accounts when he becomes the Auburn coach. The background check on Freeze was extensive, and the school hired a P.R. consultant to handle the expected blowback in bringing him aboard. They are jumping through a lot of hoops for Freeze.” – via SI.com

Is it a good sign when your 53-year-old new head coach has no self-control? I’m going to guess no.

Clearly Auburn believes Freeze’s ability as a coach is worth the hassle. But at that point, isn’t Urban Meyer available.
