The Ole Miss Rebels steamrolled the Duke Blue Devils on Thursday night in the Gator Bowl, 52-20. The win put an exclamation point on the Rebs’ season after just missing out on the College Football Playoff.
Despite picking up the win, head coach Lane Kiffin appeared miffed on the sidelines near the end of the contest. His anger was directed at starting signal caller Jaxson Dart, who played nearly every offensive snap in the blowout.
I don’t think Jaxson Dart was supposed to throw that ball from the way Lane Kiffin was just talking to him pic.twitter.com/pEBEteRpjo

The reaction came with just over a minute remaining in game action. With Ole Miss up 45-14, the offense took over with a chance to bleed the final moments from the clock.
Instead, Dart, who refused to remove himself from the lineup, went rogue. Rather than run, he threw a go route to wideout Jordan Watkins for a 69-yard score.

The disrespectful play call didn’t sit right with Kiffin with the game already well in hand. As it would turn out, it had major gambling implications, too.
Jaxson Dart’s rogue TD pass led to an incredibly bad beat.
According to Kiffin, Dart called the play to Jordan Watkins for the final Rebel touchdown. I personally love it

It seems it was Dart, not Lane Kiffin, who called that final touchdown pass. That would explain the head coach’s upset response on the sidelines. He wouldn’t be the only one frustrated by game’s end.
Duke’s team total line sat at 16.5 points before kickoff. With both the first- and second-string signal callers in the transfer portal, a number of bettors hopped on the under for that line.
It appeared a lock to cash when Ole Miss got the ball with a minute and a half remaining on the clock. An unexpected series of events ruined those tickets.
Dart’s decision to find the endzone rather than end the game allowed Duke to get the ball back one last time. It ended in disaster for under backers.
Unreal Duke kick return touchdown!

The Blue Devils successfully completed a throwback pass on the ensuing kickoff, which was returned for a 99-yard score. The touchdown helped Duke top the point total, sending a number of bettors home with a bad beat.
Jaxson Dart’s rogue decision proved costly! Not only was his head coach upset with the call, but sports gamblers had reason to be peeved, too. Just an absolutely terrible start to the New Year for under backers.
