We’ve all heard of the technique before: If you want to prove that you’re not going to be pushed around, you find the biggest, baddest bully in the yard and you walk right up and punch them in the face.
Apparently, Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Kirk Cousins took that advice to heart when he tried to start a fight with star defensive end Maxx Crosby at training camp on Friday.
Cousins, a 15-year NFL veteran who is in his first season with the Raiders, reportedly took exception with Crosby hitting his arm twice in team periods, when quarterbacks typically wear non-contact jerseys.
The new QB then got into Crosby’s face and grabbed his jersey while the pair exchanged words before being broken up. There’s just one major issue.
Nobody Seems To Have Video Of Kirk Cousins-Maxx Crosby Kerfuffle
Las Vegas opened training camp up to fans on Friday, according to the team’s official website. And yet despite that fact, it seems as if not a single person appears to have video of the incident between Cousins and Crosby.
It’s absolutely nowhere to be found on social media, either on X, Instagram, or TikTok!
First-year head coach Klint Kubiak tried to downplay the incident after practice.
“Those are two leaders on our team going at it,” Kubiak said. “Obviously, fighting in a game [or] you throw a punch in a game, you are out of the game. So we got to be smart.”
While Cousins’ teammates said they were happy to see a bit of fire out of him.
“You want him to defend your team,” tight end Michael Mayer said. “He’s always had [that edge] since the first day I met him when he came in here.”
Crosby, meanwhile, says that he was told to dial back his intensity even before training camp. But it’s not easy for him.
“When you get out there and bullets are flying, I’m not thinking about not finishing the play. That’s just not in my nature,” Crosby said at the start of training camp. “That’s something I’ve been dealing with my whole career. It’s not easy.”
On one hand, you have to hand it to Cousins. Crosby is a 6-foot-5, 255-pound mountain of a man who could probably turn Cousins to dust with a single punch. On the other hand, maybe pick someone else to start a fight with next time, just to be safe.
Either way, until we see video of the incident, we’re hesitant to believe it actually happened.
