While the New York Jets season has been metaphorically “over” since essentially Week Two, that doesn’t mean that they’re prepared to simply allow their fans to coast into the offseason, as they’ve found new ways to break their hearts seemingly every week as the year comes to an end.
Whether it be losing to two winless teams in the same season or announcing that Adam Gase is staying for another year or being the first team in NFL history to get embarrassed by a Mic’d Up segment (I’m seeing ghosts!), the New York Jets have found new, cruel, and unusual ways to torture their fans this year.
Running back Le’Veon Bell certainly falls into the category of cruel and unusual punishment, as the Jets not only needlessly gave the aging running back a four-year, $52.5 million deal, but the former Pittsburgh Steeler has since put up abysmal numbers, averaging a career-low and league-worst 3.2 yards per carry. Not only that, but it’s been widely reported that the Jets are considering trading Bell in the offseason. Long story short, the Bell signing has been nothing short of disastrous and it somehow seems to be getting worse.
According to the New York Post, Bell was spotted bowling at the Boonton Lanes in New Jersey at around 1 a.m. on Saturday night. Bell would go on to miss Sunday’s home win over the Miami Dolphins.
Sources said he was at Boonton Lanes, which is not far from where the Jets train in New Jersey, from around 10:30 p.m. to close to 1 a.m. when the bowling alley closed. Bell was easy to spot in orange leather pants. Bell’s party had alcohol on its table, but it was unclear if Bell himself was drinking. An eyewitness said Bell seemed to be having a good time bowling and had a driver outside keeping a white Mercedes Benz warm for him. [via New York Post]
The Jets are an absolute mess and Le’Veon Bell is the perfect reflection of their ineptitude. Perhaps they deserve each other.
