With the NFL offseason quickly approaching, there are sure to be a few interesting contract situations on the horizon around the league.

Orlando Brown is playing under the franchise tag right now. Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley don’t have contracts with the New York Giants for next season.

Lamar Jackson doesn’t have a contract for next year.

With all of these players preparing for contract negotiations that could become contentious, it seems the football world is once again discussing one of the most famous negotiations in league history.

People are once again talking about Le’Veon Bell’s year-long holdout with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The conversation began with Reggie Bush stating his belief that NFL players deserve guaranteed contracts. The led Le’Veon to bring up his contract negotiation with the Steelers.

Then a fan claimed that he wasn’t the same player after missing that year. Le’Veon fired back by blaming his poor performance upon his return on former New York Jets head coach Adam Gase.

Le’Veon was never quite able to recapture the magic of his days with the Pittsburgh Steelers after missing that year. His time with Gase and the Jets was particularly disastrous. He averaged just 3.2 yards per carry on 245 carries and only found the end zone 3 times as a runner.

The Jets offense as a whole was a disaster under Gase and ranked 31st in points scored for Bell’s first season back in the league. The next season was worth with the Jets finishing last in points scored. Bell played just 2 games for the Jets that season before being released.

Gase hasn’t coached at the NFL or college level since the Jets fired him.

Le’Veon’s numbers after his return make it seem like there was more to his struggles than just playing for Adam Gase, but bad coaching certainly at least played a part in his career downturn.
