For years, European soccer fans called the MLS a “retirement league”, with former star players past their prime coming over to the USA for a nice paycheck and comparatively low taxes. But, Lionel Messi looks anything but washed.

Messi likely established himself as the GOAT when he led Argentina to the 2022 FIFA World Cup title, the last thing he hadn’t achieved in terms of trophies that were available to him. He was clearly still near the top of his game when he shockingly agreed to join David Beckham’s Inter Miami this summer.

The former Barcelona man also spent the last few years of his European career at PSG. Messi scored a remarkable 496 goals in 578 club appearances in Europe, and 103 goals for Argentina.

Lionel Messi has been on fire since making his debut for Inter Miami in July. Coming into Friday’s Leagues Cup match against Charlotte FC, he had scored 7 goals in 4 games, a remarkable pace. And, he added to the tally once again on Friday.

That’s not as fancy of a goal as some of his others for Inter Miami, like these.

But, goals are goals, and he cannot stop scoring them.
