The 8 Longest Sellout Streaks In The History Of College Football

Home-field advantage can be a major factor in college football games, as it can be very intimidating for a visiting team to play in front of a packed house filled with screaming fans. Some schools are used to having a sold-out crowd, and some teams have managed to put together some pretty impressive streaks on that front.

No college football teams have had a longer sellout streak than these schools

College football stadiums come in many shapes and sizes; Kennesaw State boasts the lowest capacity of any team at the FBS level at 10,200, while the aptly named Big House at Michigan takes the crown at 107,601 (although Penn State may temporarily ascend to the throne).

However, there are some schools with smaller venues that have trouble filling the stands, as well as some that can fit upwards of 100,000 or more that routinely manage to sell every single ticket that’s available.

Stringing together a streak of sellouts is easier said than done, but there are programs with very dedicated fanbases that have been responsible for some lengthy runs.

Before we dive in, I should note that selling out a game does not mean everyone who bought a ticket actually attended it. There are also a few active streaks (the numbers reflect the total prior to the start of the 2026 season), and I’ve denoted them with an asterisk.

Georgia: 84 Games*

Georgia has experienced its fair share of ups and downs over the course of a history that stretches back to 1892, but the Bulldogs found themselves on an upward trajectory after Mark Richt arrived in Athens in 2001.

The 2010 campaign was the only season Georgia didn’t finish with a winning record during his 15-year tenure, and Sanford Stadium was just 300 spectators shy of hitting full capacity when they hosted Buffalo to kick off the season in 2012.

It hit 92,746 when the Bulldogs welcomed FAU on September 15th of that year, and every single home game they’ve played since then has sold out.

Virginia Tech: 93 Games

Virginia Tech headed into the 2026 season hoping James Franklin might be able to breathe some new life into a program that experienced an unprecedented level of success during the 29 years Frank Beamer spent as the head coach of the Hokies.

Beamer was at the helm in Blacksburg when a packed crowd of 51,907 fans descended upon Lane Stadium to watch a highly-touted freshman named Michael Vick make his college debut against James Madison on September 4th, 1999.

Every single game the QB played at Virginia Tech during his time there sold out, and the Hokies rode that wave for close to 15 years (and through multiple stadium expansions) until the streak was snapped when they hosted Western Carolina a week after opening up the 2013 season with a loss to Alabama in 2013.

Utah: 95 Games*

You might think BYU would be the football team to beat in Utah when it comes to sellout streaks, but the Cougars can’t touch the one the state’s flagship university is currently riding.

Rice-Eccles Stadium had an official capacity of 45,017 when the Utes kicked off the 2010 campaign coming off a 10-3 season, and they sold out every single contest at home that year while finishing with the same record.

That has been the case every single year since then (with the exception of 2020, when fans were banned from attending the three games the team hosted during the pandemic-shortened season), and it could surpass 100 by the time the 2026 season wraps up.

Oregon: 110 Games

If Utah is able to hit triple digits, it would join a pretty exclusive club that is currently home to five members.

That includes Oregon, which kicked off its streak around the turn of the millennium.

The Ducks started a sell-out streak at Autzen Stadium a few weeks into the season in 1999, and while it survived a couple of close calls, in the first half of the 2010s, it ultimately came to an end after 17 years when they fell just short while opening up the season against UC Davis in 2016.

Florida: 138 Games

Florida was historically an afterthought in the SEC before Steve Spurrier arrived in Gainesville in 1990, but this sellout streak actually started when they closed out the regular season at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium with a rivalry game against Florida State in 1989.

However, Spurrier ushered in a new era while introducing Gators fans to an extended period of unprecedented success, and The Swamp never came close to being drained until the start of Will Muschamp’s ill-fated tenure brought the streak to an end in 2011.

Oklahoma: 167*

The third active streak on this list comes courtesy of Oklahoma, which extended its uninterrupted stretch of “originally scheduled home contest” to 167 games when it hosted (and lost to) Alabama in the first round of the College Football Playoff in 2025.

The Sooners fell well short of a sellout at Oklahoma Memorial Stadium when they capped off a disappointing 5-6 season against Texas Tech in 1998. However, they had a full house when they opened things up against Indiana State the following year, and that’s been the case for over 25 years.

Notre Dame: 273 Games

There’s arguably no college football team in the country with a bigger fanbase than Notre Dame, and you don’t even have to root for the Fighting Irish to want to make the pilgrimage to South Bend for a game.

The school has never really had trouble filling up its stadium, as evidenced by a sellout streak that began all the way back in 1973. There were a few factors that contributed to it coming to an end, and it finally did after 46 years when Notre Dame battled Navy on November 16, 2019.

Nebraska: 410 Games*

We’ve got our fourth and final active streak courtesy of Nebraska, which has a fairly absurd sellout streak of over 400 games that began when they faced off against Missouri at Memorial Stadium on November 3, 1962.

This record has evolved into a point of pride for a program that has turned into a shell (or should I say husk?) of its former self over the past couple of decades, and it’s no secret that ticket sales have not reflected the number of people in the stands at more than a few games in recent seasons.

There is plenty of speculation that it could finally come to an end in 2026, but we’ll have to wait and see if that ends up being the case.
