Family Of LSU Safety Greg Brooks Jr. Announces He Underwent Brain Tumor Surgery, Asks For Support

The LSU Tigers community is rallying around safety Greg Brooks Jr. and his family after the family announced on Wednesday that the 5th year senior had underwent emergency surgery last Friday to remove a rain tumor.

In an announcement, the family of Greg Brooks Jr. said he was diagnosed last week with a brain tumor that required emergency surgery. They went on to say the surgery was successful and doctors removed the mass. Greg Jr. and the family are now await results of a biopsy.

In a statement, the family said:

“We are grateful for the work and care of the medical staff helping Greg through these challenges and for the concern and love poured out by so many in the Louisiana, Arkansas and national sports communities. This means the world to us at this difficult time.”

“Greg continues to fight, we we await further clarity on the extent of that battle. His incredible strength of character gives us confidence, but we also know that he needs our support now more than ever. Please keep Greg and our family in your prayers.”

Greg Brooks Jr. spent 2 seasons with the Arkansas Razorbacks before joining the LSU Tiger back in his native Louisiana. Greg Jr. had already recorded 8 tackles this season including 4 tackles against Florida State in LSU’s season opener and 4 against the Grambling Tigers. He also recorded 63 tackles, 2 interceptions, and 1 sack for LSU last season.

Brooks Jr. was absent from LSU’s 41-14 win over Mississippi State in Week 3 and no information was given from the team other than ‘medical emergency.’ So this announcement came as quite a shock.
