LSU women’s basketball lost its season-opener to Colorado, but Kim Mulkey and the Bayou Bengals are back to dominance. The reigning national champions have dropped more than 100 points in each of their last three wins against Queens, Mississippi Valley State and Kent State.
They defeated the Golden Flashes 109-79 on Tuesday. Five-star freshman Mikaylah Williams dropped 42 points in the win, which was the most points scored by any LSU women’s basketball player in the last 25 years. She was on fire!
Her most savage bucket came during the second half and had Kim Mulkey going crazy on the sideline.
Flau’jae Johnson and Williams recreated Dwayne Wade’s iconic photo with LeBron James.
The only difference was that instead of James dunking on a slick bounce pass from Wade, Williams drained a triple on a slick bounce pass from Johnson. It was money.
Johnson drove to the hoop and drew the Kent State defense which left Williams wide open at the arc. The former slipped the ball to the latter and immediately started to celebrate — even before the ball got to her teammate’s hands.
Johnson was already wrapping up her celebration as Williams knocked down the three-pointer.
Wade and James’ dunk is one of the most famous photos in sports. A still frame of Johnson and Williams’ exchange on Tuesday is equally as savage.
If the Tigers end up going back-to-back, that photo needs to hang prominently alongside the national championship trophy. However, it would have been SUPER awkward if the shot didn’t go in.
The Tigers are playing with swagger again. That is bad news for the rest of the country!
If Mulkey is happy, that means that LSU is playing incredible basketball. She is always animated, but she was especially fired up to see a freshman go off for 42. That’s just unfair!
