There’s no questioning that LSU Tigers head coach Kim Mulkey is one of the best women’s college basketball coaches of all time. But Mulkey’s attitude, which we’ll simply call “fiery,” has often gotten her into hot water. That was the case again on Thursday night when she disrespected assistant coach and LSU legend Seim0ne Augustus.
In incident occurred in the third quarter of the seventh-ranked Tigers’ 107-100 victory over over No. 13 Oklahoma. LSU led 67-45 mid-way through the third quarter when Aaliyah Del Rosario was assessed a technical foul for flopping. Mulkey was so incensed by the call that she took her anger out on the nearest thing she could find – a clipboard that Augustus was holding.

Kim Mulkey Disrespected The Wrong Person With Seimone Augustus Clipboard Slap
Augustus took it stride. Although she appeared a bit bewildered, holding her hands out, sans clipboard, for several seconds after the incident while Mulkey went back to yelling at the referees. The moment sparked a brief comeback for the Sooners but ultimately the Tigers’ 22-point lead proved insurmountable.
But herein lies the issue. Seimone Augustus is not some random assistant. She is the program’s leading scorer, a two-time Wooden Award winner as the national player of the year and a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame. Augustus is also one of the greatest WNBA players of all-time with eight All-Star game appearance and four championships to her name.
If anything, Augustus’ legacy and resume far outweigh that of Mulkey. So you can imagine how disrespectful it was for Mulkey to treat her like some student manager.
“Ayo @seimoneaugustus remind that lady who you are. TF wrong with her playing with a legend,” one fan tweeted
“Not cute, not funny. She should have gotten some sweet chin music. This is unacceptable behavior by a coach” said another.
Both make great points. Mulkey is a legendary coach. But that doesn’t mean you get to treat you assistants like junk, especially ones as accomplished as Augustus.
