Luke Bryan’s 18-year-old son Bo Bryan suffered a season-ending injury during a high school football game on Friday night. Bo had been having a stellar year as the starting quarterback of Battle Ground Academy in Franklin, Tennessee.
Bo Bryan was sacked during Battle Ground Academy’s game against Pope John Paul II High School, landing on his right shoulder on the game’s opening drive, according to The Tennessean. As he stayed on the sidelines for the rest of the game, trainers wrapped his shoulder and put his arm in a sling. He was scheduled to have an X-ray after the game.
“I don’t know what we’re looking at yet,” coach Bobby Bentley told The Tennessean on Friday. “We’ll have to figure this thing out. That’s the challenge for us as a team and as coaches. What do we do? How do we do it? We’re going to figure it out.”
Bryan said that when he first struck the ground, he believed it was just a stinger, but “once I got up, I knew something was wrong. When I got to the sideline, I really knew something was wrong.”
Bo Bryan, his dad and mom all shared updates on social media
The next day, Bo Bryan informed his Instagram followers that he had broken his collarbone, thanking “everyone for your thoughts and prayers,” adding, “We will be back.”
On Monday, Bo’s dad, country music star Luke Bryan, posted a video on social media of the family traveling to the hospital. Despite the sling on his arm, Bo, who is sitting in the car’s passenger seat, smiled for the camera. Caroline, the singer’s wife and Bo’s mother, is also traveling with them. From the backseat, she can be heard saying, “Here we go.”
Shortly after, Caroline Bryan posted a picture of the three of them together at what appears to be a medical facility of some sort.
“Not the best day for Bo, or our family, but he’ll be back!!!! Dang collarbone…and of course Luke can’t take a serious picture!” she wrote in the post’s caption.
Bo Bryan was having a huge year before getting hurt
Prior to his injury, Bo Bryan had completed 74% of his passes for 2,006 yards and 30 touchdowns with just three interceptions. Earlier this season, against one of his school’s biggest rivals, Bo had a monster game, throwing for 406 yards and 6 touchdowns in a huge win over Franklin Road Academy, leading Battle Ground to a 41-36 victory in a rematch of last year’s Tennessee Division II-AA state championship.
Also, in a season-opening 41-18 victory over St. Michael Catholic, the 6-foot-tall, 200-pound Bryan outdueled Gunner Rivers, the son of former NFL quarterback Philip Rivers, going 16 of 21 for 379 yards and three touchdowns.
So far, Bo Bryan has reportedly received offers from Austin Peay, Eastern Kentucky, East Tennessee State, North Alabama and UT Martin.
