Ole Miss shortstop Luke Hill claims that his social media accounts were hacked. His declaration comes after he allegedly complained about Name, Image and Likeness compensation— or lack thereof.

Screenshots of a conversation that appeared to include Hill started to surface on Thursday night. It seemed like said that he wishes he could return home to Baton Rouge (and play for LSU) because he hasn’t received his monthly NIL payment and is “running out of money.”

The sophomore infielder refuted that opinion in a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Friday morning. Hill says that he is thrilled to be a Rebel while firmly stating that he had been hacked.

No further evidence was provided.

Hill, one of the best shortstops in the nation last season, started 54 games for the Sun Devils as a freshman. He hit .314 with 42 RBIs, six home runs and 11 doubles in 2023 while fielding .938 with 78 putouts. His bat was/is expected to be a big boost to the lineup in Oxford. His glove was/is expected to be among the most reliable in the country.

However, Luke Hill went 2-for-16 at the plate with the third-most strikeouts on the team through the first five games of the 2024 college baseball season. Ole Miss lost two games to Hawaii and a midweek game to Arkansas State during that timeframe. That is unacceptable for a team that won a national title just two years ago.

The timing for Hill to be “hacked” could not be worse considering his poor play thus far.

Especially after what the Arizona State head coach had to say about him back in July of last year. Willie Bloomquist did not appreciate the way in which Hill transferred out of his program, to say the least.

Based on the response from our players, they aren’t in the same category as Luke Hill. I say that with the respect of our players, I know their make-up and they were not happy with how it went down. Not the fact that he’s gone, not the fact that he transferred, it’s just how it went down.

Matter of fact, a lot of them think we’re going to be much better without him minus the attitude that at times showed its head with him.

While Bloomquist’s comments were not a great look on his part, they make Hill’s alleged leaked texts look even worse, despite his claims that he was hacked. Especially after beginning his year at Ole Miss with a .125 batting average.
