Kansas vs Wichita State Alumni game at The Basketball Tournament
On Monday, we were treated to some fireworks when guys who once played at Kansas and Wichita State faced off in an alumni game at The Basketball Tournament. The contest was capped off by a brawl where a player delivered a cheap shot that led to an unsuspecting staffer bearing the brunt of the blow, and she called him out while detailing the extent of the injuries that landed her in the hospital.
“Fiery” is typically not the first word that is used to describe an alumni game, as those contests usually feature over-the-hill athletes trying to have some fun and recapture their glory days while attempting to put on an entertaining show for fans who’ve gathered to watch them.
However, those contests don’t usually feature the amount of money that’s up for grabs at the 2026 edition of The Basketball Tournament, which features 14 teams vying for the $2 million prize that’s up for grabs in the championship game.
Eight of those squads are comprised of players who primarily hail from the same alma mater, and earlier this week, ballers who mostly did their thing at Kansas and Wichita State faced off on the latter’s home court in the hopes of getting one step closer to that jackpot.
Unfortunately, it was marred by a couple of heated skirmishes, including one that sparked a chain reaction that led to an innocent bystander spending the night in the emergency room.

Monday’s game was officially between JHX and the AfterShocks, the names adopted by the team comprised of guys who once played for the Jayhawks and the Shockers, respectively.
Both of those squads played the second half with just six players on the bench after a grand total of nine were ejected following a brawl that broke out toward the end of the second half, and JHX ultimately advanced to the next round with a 64-58 victory.
However, the bad blood continued to boil after the final horn sounded. Marcus Greene, who was one of a handful of players on the AfterShocks who didn’t actually play at Wichita State (he started his college career at Youngstown State and ended it at Central Michigan), decided to go after Jacob Hanna, who was blindsided by a shove.

That sent Hanna flying into Maggie Gehring, a JHX staffer working as a content creator. On Tuesday, she called Greene a “poor loser” in an Instagram post where she revealed her “nose [was] broken in several places” after suffering an open fracture along with a deviated septum.
Keene was decidedly unapologetic after the game, as he bragged about putting Hanna (who also suffered a cut to the head) “on his back” in a now-deleted tweet. However, he changed his tune in a statement where he apologized for what transpired.

The AfterShocks were eliminated from the tournament with the loss, but it appears Keene has been banned from future iterations after the organization decided to hit him with an indefinite suspension from its events.
