The Orlando Magic ultimately lost to the Detroit Pistons in the season opener, but rookie Paolo Banchero put on quite the show. He recorded an impressive stat line of 27 points, five assists, and nine rebounds. This monster performance put him in elite compnay, which bodes well for his future in the league.

Magic Rookie Paolo Banchero In Elite Company With LeBron James & Kareem Abdul-Jabarr In Debut

According to CBS Sports, Banchero had one of the best debuts a number one overall pick can have to start their NBA season. His insane stat line put him in elite compnay alongside LeBron James and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the only number one overall picks to record 25+ points, 5+ assists, and 5+ rebounds.

This has to be music to Magic fans ears. It’s been awhile since we’ve last seen this franchise be competitive. However, Paolo Banchero could prove to be the missing superstar the team has needed for years. Especially if he’s going to put up numbers like this.

But if Paolo Banchero is going to play like this, then the Magic could have a legitimate superstar on their hands. Being compared to LeBron James and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is never a bad thing. Orlando is going to do everything possible to help Banchero develop his game, as he is the future of this franchise.

Things should get interesting on Friday night though, as the Magic are set to take on the Atlanta Hawks. Paolo Banchero had some notable beef with Dejounte Murray during the offseason. This could be a spicy contest for the rookie, as another strong performance from Banchero will surely have Orlando buzzing.
