If you thought the madness of March wouldn’t start until Thursday, you were sorely mistaken. Real college hoops fans know that the First Four Games are often classics.
I’m sure many weren’t paying attention to a matchup of sixteen seeds in Alabama A&M and Saint Francis on Tuesday night. But, those who didn’t tune in missed an awesome game with an incredible finish that got March Madness off to a great start.
St. Francis, champions of the NEC, were making their first tournament appearance since 1991 and their second all-time. Meanwhile, Alabama State, champions of the SWAC, were making their fifth appearance all-time.
The game was a back-and-forth affair the whole way, though St. Francis led for the majority. Alabama State took the lead with just over 4 minutes to go for the first time since the early going, and it was back-and-forth in the final minutes.

After some chaos, Alabama State had the ball underneath the basket, needing to go to the length of the floor. Then, this happened.

What a ballsy call by Alabama State coach Tony Madlock to go deep there, and a great play by Amarr Knox to collect the ball and score.
Folks, it’s officially March Madness.
