Markquis Nowell was one of the most electrifying players in the 2023 March Madness field. The point guard wowed viewers with his ridiculous ability to both facilitate and score, leading Kansas State to the Elite Eight.

After going undrafted, Nowell was signed by the Raptors in June. He’s now out to prove his worth in the NBA summer league.

Unfortunately, things have gotten off to a bit of a rocky start. The guard went viral for the wrong reason on Wednesday in a matchup against the Pistons’ summer league squad.

While shooting an open three-pointer, he appeared to attempt a move made famous by Steph Curry. After releasing the shot, he turned and ran back down the court as if he knew the shot was going in.

There was only one problem. It didn’t.

Not only did he miss, but he failed to hit much of anything. The shot missed the rim completely, clanging off of the backside of the backboard as he strolled down the court.

The sports world immediately trolled Nowell for the blunder.

“What is Markquis Nowell doing?” one fan asked.

“He thinks he’s Stephy Curry,” another follower wrote.

It was a representation of his night as a whole as Nowell shot just 2-13 (0-5 from three) from the field. He’ll try to get things back on track in his next appearance, but this might be the last we see of the showboating attempts this summer.
