French Soccer Fans Come Up With Wild Way To Unsettle Tottenham Players Before UEFA Champions League Match

Premier League soccer team Tottenham Hotspur has its biggest game to date on Tuesday against French Ligue Une team Marseille.

Tottenham currently sits atop UEFA Champions League Group D with 8 points and just Tuesday’s match remaining. But Marseille is just two points behind in fourth and a win would vault them over Spurs. Meanwhile, the two other teams in the group are tied with 7 points. A win or draw in that match would see Portuguese club Sporting Clube de Portugal move ahead of Tottenham if they lose to Marseille, while a win for German side Frankfurt would also lift them over Spurs.

So it’s a pretty precarious situation for the club from North London. And their job got even more difficult thanks to some rowdy Marseille fans on Monday night.

Marseille Fans Shoot Off Fireworks Throughout The Night Outside Of Tottenham Team Hotel

Marseille is one of the first and most prestigious French soccer clubs. It was founded in 1899 and has won nine Ligue 1 titles. It’s also the only French club to have won the UEFA Champions League.

Marseille’s supporters are also among Europe’s wildest and perhaps also most infamous. So it comes as no surprise to learn that, ahead of their biggest game of the year, they stirred up a bit of trouble.

Supporters reportedly spent the night setting off fireworks outside of the Tottenham team hotel, keeping players awake throughout the night.

Tottenham fans were not at all happy with what they called underhanded tactics.

Though others weren’t buying the excuse.’

As if the sleepless night weren’t enough, Tottenham also faces a number of additional challenges. Usual starters Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison and Cristian Romero are each set to miss the game due to injuries.

While the disruption certainly doesn’t help, Spurs players will sleep soundly if they can somehow manage to book their spot in the Round of 16.
