Marshall Manning got to play the entire fourth quarter of the Baylor School’s blowout win over McCallie on Friday. He led the first touchdown drive of his high school football career!

The eldest son of Peyton Manning kept the scoring drive alive on a crucial 3rd-and-11.

Not only was it his most impressive high school football highlight to date, it allowed the Red Raiders to move the chains. It looked a lot like his dad.

The Baylor School defeated McCallie in high school football.

If you do not keep up with high school football in Tennessee, there is something of a revolution happening. Several Division II programs recently announced their intent to play an independent, non-region schedule for the next two seasons. Those teams will not be eligible for the playoffs. They won’t be able to win a state championship.

The decision stems from a discrepancy in the quality of athletes. Private schools are able to pay their players and recruit. Public schools cannot. As a result, the public schools have less talent than the private schools at almost every position.

They don’t think that is fair so they went independent. It is something of a protest.

The Baylor School is one of the schools that can recruit. Founded in 1893, the 690-acre campus looks like Hogwarts. Annual tuition hovers around $68,000. With a roster of elite talent from all over the United States (and Canada!), its football team is utterly dominant.

The Red Raiders are undefeated at 7-0 by a combined score of 297-116 in 2026. That includes a 49-7 win over the Blue Tornado on Friday night. McCallie actually defeated Baylor to win back-to-back state championships in 2023 and 2024 so this most recent meeting was supposed to be a relatively good game. It was not close.

As a result of the lopsided score, starting quarterback (and Ole Miss commit) Keegan Croucher did not play the entire fourth quarter and gave way to the backup quarterback. His backup just so happens to be the son of an NFL Hall of Famer!

Marshall Manning took over in the fourth quarter and got rocked.

Marshall Manning made his high school football debut during an exhibition game at the beginning of August and looked exactly like his cousin, Arch. The true freshman quarterback completed his first regular season pass in Week 1.

Unfortunately, a foot injury prevented Baylor from getting him in the game over the next few weeks. He made his return to the gridiron last weekend. Friday was his first opportunity to play a full quarter. His dad, Peyton Manning, was in the crowd.

Manning first entered the game with four minutes remaining in the third quarter and immediately completed a pass. He came out of the game two plays later.

The Baylor School ultimately gave the keys to Manning for the entire fourth quarter. He finished with three completions for 35 yards.

His most impressive completion was on 3rd-and-11. Manning pulled down a high snap and threw off his back foot while getting absolutely crushed. He dropped a high-arching lob into an open space near the sideline for his running back.

It was a big hit. Manning was visibly dazed when he got back to his feet and had to shake off the slobberknocker but that did not stop him from getting right up to the line of scrimmage for the next play!

The Baylor School scored a touchdown a few plays later to complete the first scoring drive of Marshall Manning’s high school football career. His first touchdown pass still evades him.
