Rookie wide receiver Marvin Mims hit quarterback Russell Wilson with a vicious stray following Denver’s win over Buffalo on Monday. The slight came while he was actually arguing with an opposing fan.

The heckler commented on Mims’ no-catch night as he posed for photos and signed autographs for Broncos fans.  The wideout clapped back with an unexpected reply.

That response had nothing to do with the result on the field, an upset of the Bills in primetime. A simple “scoreboard” or “bank account” would’ve likely done the job.

Instead, Mims decided to go in a different direction with the trash talker, by taking a jab at his own quarterback.

“He don’t throw it to me anyways,” Mims said as the heckler criticized his 0-fer in receptions.

The response sparked an immediate reaction on social media.

“He is not lying.”

“That’s right Marvin. Laugh through the pain.”

“Broncos Country, let’s ride!”

Mims might have a legitimate gripe. Despite playing 69% of the offense’s snaps on Monday according to Football Guys, he received just one target. It’s been a theme this year as he’s seen just four targets and two catches over the last five games.

This, after breaking out at the beginning of his rookie year to the tune of 242 yards and a score over the first four contests.

While he wasn’t able to help the Broncos out in the pass catching department, Mims made his presence felt in other aspects of the game. Most notably, as a special teamer.

Maybe the comments will cause Russell Wilson to look his way a few more times next week.
