Matt Rhule is the new head coach of the Carolina Panthers, according to reports. Rhule, the former head coach of the Baylor University football team, was also a candidate for the New York Giants open head coaching position.

With the Panthers hiring of Rhule, the only NFL teams still in need of a new head coach are the Cleveland Browns and the New York Giants.

According to previous reports, if the Giants were to miss out on Rhlue — which they did — then former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett would become an option for them.

The 44-year-old Rhule, who began coaching at Baylor University in 2016, led the Bears to an 11-3 record and an appearance in the Sugar Bowl (although they ultimately lost to the University of Georgia by a score of 26-14). Additionally, Rhule was named the 2019 Big 12 coach of the year for his efforts at Baylor.

Prior to being the head coach of Baylor University, Rhlue was the head coach at Temple University in Philadelphia.

In addition to the Panthers, the Washington Redkins and Dallas Cowboys also appointed new head coaches this offseason. As previously mentioned, the New York Giants and the Cleveland Browns are still in the market for a new head coach.

Rhule certainly has his work cut out for him, as the Panthers — who started the season at 5-3 — closed out the year with eight-straight loses en route to fourth place in the NFC South. Not only that, but there is a general uncertainty surrounding the future of franchise QB Cam Newton, as the former Heisman Trophy winner has been a shell of his former self in recent years.
