Sports documentarian Gotham Chopra, the co-founder of Religion of Sports alongside Tom Brady and Michael Strahan, has been around some of the greatest athletes of our generation.

Chopra’s resume includes documenting and working with Tom Brady, Kobe Bryant, Steph Curry, LeBron James, Simone Biles, and others.

Chopra’s latest Netflix documentary, “McGregor Forever,” focuses on UFC superstar Conor McGregor.

We spoke with Chopra, and he explained to us the similarities he sees between McGregor and other great athletes he’s worked with, describing how they’re wired differently than most people.

“He’s a mad scientist. You know, he’s obsessive. Personality-wise, he’s quite similar to Kobe [Bryant], like there’s a defiance and a combativeness to him of course. But he couldn’t be opposite of Tom Brady or Steph Curry I would say as the most gentle guy”

Chopra believes McGregor’s obsessive mindset is most similar to what he’s seen with Steph Curry.

“What they have similar, with Steph, I’ve been to training sessions with Steph like shootarounds, this is the greatest shooter in the history of basketball and he still obsesses over like tiny little things that he thinks that are going to make him better.

“Conor is the same way, you will be at training sessions and for hours, upon hours, he has everything filmed, and he’ll watch the film and he’s looking at these tiny little things to help him get better. Some would argue he’s one of, if not the greatest UFC fighter that’s ever lived and yet he’s not satified with that.”
