Memphis head football coach Ryan Silverfield was not happy with defensive lineman Andres Fox after an ugly incident involving a punch during the second half of Friday night’s loss to Tulane. The 245-pound redshirt senior was ejected after a low blow— literally.

Fox, a 6-foot-4, 245-pound edge rusher, is a journeyman. He transferred to Memphis for his sixth season of eligibility after one year at Fresno State and four years at Stanford.

Considering his lengthy and esteemed educational background, one would think that Fox knows better than to throw punches in broad daylight. One would think that he knows better than to throw punches at all.

Apparently not!

Green Wave offensive lineman Josh Remetich stands 6-foot-4, 295 pounds. Although he and Fox are the same height, the weight advantage goes to the New Orleans-native.

As such, Remetich buried Fox with a pancake block in pass protection. Quarterback Michael Pratt still took the sack, but Fox ended up with Remetich laying on top of him.

For whatever reason, that did not go over well.

Fox appeared to throw a punch directly to Remetich’s gonads while getting back to his feet. The latter crumbled back to the turf after getting hit where the sun doesn’t shine.

He either got clocked in the cojones or deserves an Academy Award for his sell job. Zapruder-style film of the incident wasn’t entirely clear, but a closer angle made it look like Fox got Remetich good with a pretty solid nut tap punch.

The incident ultimately led to Fox being ejected from the college football game. There was no push back to say “it never happened,” which means that contact was made to Remetich’s family jewels.

In fact, Silverfield went so far as to call it a “bulls—” move and apologized for what happened.

That’s inexcusable. That is not us. I’m very, very, very disappointed in the individual that did it. He will be handled appropriately […] There is no room for that in college football, there is no room for that in the Memphis program. My apologies to Tulane for that B.S. move.

— Tigers head coach Ryan Silverfield

Fox was tossed on Friday night. His status for next week is up in the air. It is unclear as to how Silverfield will handle the incident, but it sounds like he will be taking swift action!
