As we all know, making it to the NBA isn’t exactly easy. This is why the continued growth and development of the NBA G League (Formerly the NBA Developmental League) is so promising. The league not only provides a new path for young players who want to forgo college with G League Ignite. But it also provides a path into or back to the league for veterans looking to improve their skills in a competitive environment.

Take, for example, the Memphis Hustle. The Hustle are the official G League affiliate of the Memphis Grizzlies and features a handful of players who have seen NBA action. Chief among them is 6-foot-6, 275-pound forward Kenneth Lofton. But the team also features former Purdue and Philadelphia 76ers sharpshooter Dakota Mathis as well as a number of other NBA hopefuls.

The Hustle took on Mexico City-based Capitanes de Ciudad de Mexico on Thursday night in a regular season G League contest. And they pulled off something you’d probably only ever season in a Globetrotters or And 1 Mixtape game.

Memphis Hustle Pull Off Insane Off The Heezy Give And Go

The Memphis Grizzlies are perhaps the swaggiest team in the NBA right now. So it only makes sense that their G League affiliate would follow suit.

Center Darnell Cowart and forward Damien Jefferson did just that on Thursday night.

Cowart appears to attempt a cross-court pass that deflected off the dome of a Capitanes player and right back into his hands. Then Jefferson, thinking quickly, cut to the basket. Cowart delivered the simple pass and Jefferson hammered it home. It was a play straight out of NBA street, and fans couldn’t believe what they’d just seen.

For his own dignity, we won’t reveal the name of the Capitanes player that got beaned. But the NBA G League is truly a magical place where anything can happen.
