The debate over the safety of NFL fields that are artificial turf as opposed to natural grass really heated up after Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles just a few snaps after his team debut in week one. And, the infamous MetLife turf has claimed another victim, with Dolphins star edge Jaelan Phillips leaving the game with a non-contact Achilles injury.

Take a look at the play.

Yikes. That stinks. Phillips is a productive young player that has upside to become a true superstar pass rusher. But, that doesn’t look good. I am very much not a doctor, but that looks like it could be another torn Achilles.

If so, that would add to the list of catastrophic injuries on the MetLife turf, which players absolutely hate playing on. Take a look at this long list.

Naturally, Jets owner Woody Johnson and Giants controlling partner John Mara see absolutely nothing wrong with this! Who cares if the league’s biggest stars are getting hurt and the turf is potentially contributing to it? As long as those guys get to pocket a few extra bucks, it’s worth it to them.

The league’s fans don’t agree.

“Since 2020, there have been six ACL tears, three Achilles tears, an MCL tear and a patellar tendon tear at MetLife Stadium. How has the NFL not done anything about that turf yet?” @MikeBeauvais said.

“Just devastating. The NFL HAS to do something about the MetLife turf. It’s been proven not to safe time and time again. How many more injuries are they going to allow to happen there???,” @WillScott44 said.

“What’s it going to take to get rid of the turf at MetLife? Players boycotting to step onto the field? More injuries are inevitable with that field,” @TheGleef said.

The Dolphins won the game, 34-13, but that will be a small consolation to losing their best edge rusher.
