New York Mets Tease Purple City Connect Jerseys

The New York Mets are one of the last teams in Major League Baseball to get a “City Connect” jersey design. The jerseys have been debuting for teams since 2021, with around eight teams each year getting their City Connect jerseys.

The Mets will reveal their City Connect jerseys on April 19, and I think a lot of Mets fans are excited.  On Monday, the Mets posted a huge teaser on what those City Connect jerseys could look like.

Wait, they’re going to be purple? That’s certainly a surprise. Yes, other City Connect jerseys for other teams have been colors that aren’t the normal team colors. But, I’m still surprised they will be purple.

Maybe the reason  they chose purple for the City Connect is because of the famed 7 Line train. The 7 line, which serves the borough of Queens from Manhattan, has a stop right at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets. Thousands of Mets fans take the 7 Line every home game to watch the Mets. It’s part of the team’s fabric.

Hopefully those taking the 7 train can begin seeing some more success this season. The Mets started the season with a six-game homestand and lost five of those six games. They righted the ship over the weekend by taking two of three on the road against the Reds, and sit at 3-6. Unfortunately, a four-game set with the loaded Atlanta Braves on the road is waiting for New York starting Monday night. It’s not hard to see them losing all four of those and beginning the season 3-10.

But, at least purple jerseys are coming!
