The Washington Nationals are not a good team this season. They’ve limped out to an 18-33 record through the first two months of the year, sitting dead last in a struggling NL East.
The Mets, meanwhile, are rolling right along. At 34-17, they’re the only team in the division to boast a winning record. That mark is the second best in the entire National League as they continue to flex their muscles as one of baseball’s top teams.
So, with the two rivals met on the field this week, it’s been a tough scene to watch.
The Mets posted a 13-5 victory in game one of the series on Monday, racking up 16 hits in the contest. After the defeat, the Nats social media team posted a meme online comparing their NL East foe to the oft criticized band Nickelback.

That post added fuel to the fire as the Mets followed that impressive performance up with a 10-0 thumping on Tuesday night. That Nationals’ media team had to do some backtracking after the beatdown.
Washington apologized for the Nickelback comparison, quickly changing their tune to say that the band is the “greatest rock band of all time.” They will now respect Nickelback as they do the Mets, who have been great in their own right this season.
New York took no mercy on the timeline, blasting Washington with a hilarious reply.

The post reads, “Look at this photograph,” an obvious reference to the popular Nickelback song. In the meme is a clip from the music video with lead singer Chad Kroeger holding up a picture that says, “Mets win.”
A brutal rebuttal that might keep the Nats from trash-talking their division foe in the future.
