In absolutely tragic news, one of baseball’s greatest shining young stars, Marlins right-hand pitcher Jose Fernandez died in a boating accident early Sunday morning. Fernandez was only 24-years-old.
The Miami Marlins have issued a statement on this shocking death.
“The Miami Marlins organization is devastated by the tragic loss of Jose Fernandez. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at a very difficult time,” the club said in a statement.
As a result of Fernandez’s death, the Marlins have canceled their game against the Atlanta Braves on Sunday.
Fernandez was one of three people who were found dead after police responded to a 3 a.m. ET call regarding a boat accident. The 30-foot boat overturned after crashing into the rocks off Miami Beach.
Jose’s Instagram shows he loved fishing and boating.
He also showed love for his friends and called his group the #JSCrew.
