Stop us if you have heard this one before: Michael Irvin is under investigation by an arm of law enforcement.

NBC Sports reports that the Hall of Fame wide receiver is being investigated by the Allen, Texas Police Department.

“There has been an allegation, but we are not prepared to release any details at this time due to our investigation being in its very early stages,” Allen PD Public Information Officer Jonathan Maness told PFT by email, in response to a question regarding whether Irvin is currently facing any type of allegation or investigation. (Obviously, we asked the question based on a tip that there is something going on.)

Levi McCathern, Michael Irvin’s attorney, in response to the inquiry, said, “He didn’t do anything wrong or inappropriate.”

He also added that Irvin “vehemently denies” whatever the allegation turns out to be when it is revealed. So far, the Allen Police Department has not revealed any details about what they are investigating with regard to Irvin.

McCathern also threw out typical lawyer phrases like “absolutely no truth” and “saddens me.”

In the end, he says, it “will turn out to be much ado about nothing.”

Almost one year ago, just before the Super Bowl in February, NFL Network removed Michael Irvin from its coverage of the game and suspended him for seven months.

The suspension came after allegations of sexual misconduct toward a female employee at the Marriott hotel in the Phoenix area were made. Irvin claimed that he had no recollection of the alleged incident because he had been inebriated, but insisted that he did nothing wrong.

No criminal charges were ever made and Irvin ended up suing Marriott for $100 million – which was later settled.

That alleged incident was the fourth time Irvin had been publicly accused of sexual misconduct with a woman.

In 2017, Irvin was investigated by Fort Lauderdale police for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman. No charges were made in that case.

Also, in 2007, Michael Irvin was accused of sexual assault in Florida. No charges were filed in that case either, but a civil suit was filed against him. He counter-sued for $100 million and the case was settled out of court.

In 1996, Irvin and teammate Erik Williams were accused of sexually assaulting a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader. The cheerleader, Nina Shahravan, would later recant her story, plead guilty to perjury and filing a false police report, and serve 90 days in jail.

Other brushes with the law include an incident in 1998 when he reached a settlement with Cowboys offensive lineman Everett McIver after allegedly stabbing him in the neck with a pair of scissors, an arrest for felony cocaine possession in 2001, and an arrest for an outstanding warrant for an unpaid speeding ticket and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia in 2005.
