Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. is among the frontrunners for the Heisman Trophy through the first 10 games of the 2023 college football season. The Huskies are undefeated and their sixth-year senior signal-caller is the primary reason why. He has been awesome.

As things stand today, Penix leads the nation with 3,533 passing yards and sits second in total offense behind LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels. His performance on against Utah on Saturday was his best of the season thus far.

Penix’s 34-yard touchdown pass to Rome Oduze during the second quarter was especially slick.

Washington is on a path to the College Football Playoff if current trends continue. If the Huskies finish the regular season undefeated and win the Pac-12 Championship, it would be hard not to crown Penix as the best player in the country.

Although there is still a long way to go before the NFL Draft, the 6-foot-3, 216-pound lefty is considered to be a first round talent. Not only can he sling it, Penix’s leadership is one of the things that stand out most about him.

It was on full display prior to the fourth quarter against the Utes. He gathered his entire team around him during the break and offered a rallying speech.

Every single one of his teammates was dialed-in on what he had to say. They broke it down once Penix was ready to break it down.

Rarely do you see a team respond to its quarterback in such a way unless the players are fully bought in to what he is saying. It is clear that the Washington Huskies rally around Penix.

He is a fantastic talent on the field. He is equally as strong of a leader beyond the Xs and Os.

Whichever NFL team chooses to draft Michael Penix will be thrilled to have him as a player and a person!
