THIS. IS. MARCH.

Michigan basketball made a statement on Tuesday evening. Hosting their in-state rival Michigan State Spartans, the Wolverines were dominant from start to finish.

After jumping out to a 44-28 lead at halftime, interim head coach Phil Martelli’s team never looked back and went on to win by 17. At 17-12, Michigan still has some work to do if it wants to make the NCAA Tournament, but the win over Tom Izzo’s squad goes a long way toward boosting its resume.

The atmosphere at the game was electric. The Crisler Center was rocking.

Not only were the fans at full-go, but the Wolverines bench put on a Hall of Fame-worthy performance. When it comes to college basketball, the play on the court is just as important as the bench cellies just off of the court.

When your team is on a rally, or winning in dominant fashion like on Tuesday, the outlandish antics need to be as loud as possible. Michigan met the mark and took it up a notch.

The towel gang on the end of the bench put on a show all night. They broke out some of the classics — imaginary squats, the sniper and bicep curls — and although they didn’t get super creative, their enthusiasm and energy was more than enough.

If the Wolverines can finish out the seasons with wins over Iowa and Ohio State, both in the Top 25, and make a little run in the BIG 10 Tournament, they will be firmly on the “in” side of the bubble. It’s all in the bench mob.
