In the craziest end to a college football game since 2013 when Alabama missed a field goal that was returned for a game-winning touchdown by Auburn, Michigan punter Blake O’Neill flubbed a snap on the game’s final play, causing the football to go airborne, and being retrieved by a Michigan State player for a touchdown and a State 27-23 win.
A successful punt would have surely won the game for the Wolverines, as time was expiring, but the Australian-born punter made a blunder that will be etched in the Michigan/Michigan State rivalry scrapbook for decades to come.
Michigan fans were left in a state of, well, one picture tells the story:
Despite kicking an 80-yard punt, the second longest in Michigan’s history, Michigan fans were quick to berate O’Neill on social media. Tweets varied from “WTF DUDE!” to certifiable death threats.
