The University of Michigan is in the midst of a sign stealing investigation that’s taken college football by storm. The scandal has many questioning the recent successes of Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines.

Buried under the unfolding details of that operation is another story of potential wrongdoing in Ann Arbor. This one involves the FBI.

Late last year, offensive coordinator Matt Weiss was involved in controversy. University police received word of “computer access crimes,” leading the school to place the coach on leave.

He’d be fired in January.

The University of Michigan’s deputy chief of police, Crystal James, released a statement on the investigation at the time:

“The University of Michigan Police Department (UMPD) is investigating a report of computer access crimes that occurred at Schembechler Hall during December 21-23, 2022. Since this is an ongoing investigation, there is no additional information to share.”

Not much has been released surrounding specific details, only that the fraudulent activity “involves someone accessing university email accounts without authorization.”

Now, it seems things have gotten worse.

The FBI is reportedly involved and has been working with the UM Police “for months.”

Social media was quick to react. Many had completely forgotten about the investigation given Michigan’s sign stealing scandal and Jim Harbaugh’s early season suspension.

“It’s hard to keep up with all of these, honestly.”

“Never good to have the FBI and NCAA looking into you at the same time.”

Adam Rittenberg says the investigation into Weiss “covers alleged activities in multiple states. ” It is not believed, however, to have any connections to the sign stealing saga.
