Michigan State Issues Statement Placing Blame For Adolf Hitler Picture On Scoreboard

The Michigan State Spartans are once again in PR mode.

This time, it’s after a picture of Adolf Hitler was inexplicably shown on the Spartan Stadium scoreboard during Saturday’s game against the rival Michigan Wolverines.

The incident happened after a trivia question asking where the former Nazi party leader was born.

Now the Spartans say that the image wasn’t their fault, but rather that of a third-party.

“MSU is aware that inappropriate content by a third-party source was displayed on the videoboard prior to the start of tonight’s football game,’ the statement read. We are deeply sorry for the content that was displayed, as this is not representative of our institutional values. MSU will not be using the third-party source going forward and will implement strong stcreening and approval procedures for all videoboard content in the future.”

Former Deadspin employee Timothy Burke then tweeted that the question was taken from The Quiz Channel on YouTube. Burke then linked to the video as well.

So Michigan State itself did not ask the question. But it raises questions about the university’s vetting process.

It’s also just the latest twist in a nightmare season for the Spartans.

Michigan State fired head coach Mel Tucker late last month after claims of sexual harassment. Tucker allegedly harassed rape survivor and sexual assault educator Brenda Tracey, who had previously spoken to the Spartans team multiple times.

Tucker denies those allegations and is currently suing the program.
