Mikal Bridges was traded to the Brooklyn Nets at the NBA trade deadline after spending the first four and a half seasons of his career in Phoenix. The forward is already winning his new fanbase over.

After just a few days, he’s become a fan favorite, even landing a new nickname among the Brooklyn faithful. He spoke about that moniker on Wednesday after a career night with the Nets.

Bridges went off for a career-high 45 points against the Heat in a 116-105 win. He shot 70% from the floor, including a 67% clip beyond the three-point arc. He also tallied eight boards, five assists, and a pair of steals.

The win helped the team improve 34-24 on the year, good for the fifth place in the Eastern Conference. That has the fans hopeful for a playoff run following the losses of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.

Mikal Bridges was a part of the deal that sent KD to the Suns, finding out his fate via a FaceTime call from former teammate Damion Lee. In the three games since arriving to the Big Apple, he’s averaging 25 points a night. His performance has clearly caught the attention of Nets supporters as they’ve dubbed him “Brooklyn Bridges.”

The name quickly caught on, and Bridges commented on that new nickname after the win on Wednesday. Here’s what he had to say.

“I love it. I love it a lot. It’s simple, it makes sense. It’s really dope, I really enjoy it a lot.”

Mikal Bridges seems to have an infectious personality that follows him wherever he goes. In Phoenix, he held the hearts of fans with his charisma and happy-go-lucky attitude.

One of his more viral moments in Arizona came as he attended the closing of a prominent college bar, being seen belting out My Chemical Romance karaoke with bystanders.

Now, he’s gaining a following on the East Coast. If his production continues, that fanbase will only grow.
