Sep 12, 2026; East Hartford, Connecticut, USA; Maryland Terrapins head coach Mike Locksley watches from the sideline as they take on the UConn Huskies at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field.
The Maryland Terrapins finally cut ties with longtime head coach Mike Locksley a few weeks ago after he lost his 12th consecutive Big Ten game, this time at the hands of the lowly Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
Fast forward to Saturday, and Locksley appeared on the Big Ten Network’s studio show. On top of that, he found himself in the extremely awkward position of having to analyze Maryland’s first Big Ten victory after the Terrapins knocked off Purdue, 34-29, in West Lafayette.
Locksley remained composed throughout the segment, but everyone watching at home was cringing just a little bit, knowing how uncomfortable it must have been.

Mike Locksley Praised Maryland Players And Coaches For Win Over Purdue
“I got my first guaranteed victory out of the way. Congrats to (interim head) Coach Aazaar (Abdul-Rahim) and the Maryland Terrapins football team,” Locksley said.
“It was a complimentary game. When you look in the first half, the way the defense did a great job of holding them to field goals, and then the offense comes out, four TDs in four straight drives to blow the game open and then win it at the end in a close game at the end.”
Co-host Gerry DiNardo then noted that Terrapins’ quarterback, Malik Washington, was only at Maryland due to Locksley. Locksley then thanked him for the sentiment. But the whole segment was awkward.

Locksley previously stated his desire to continue coaching, although not in a head coaching role. Perhaps he’ll get that opportunity. But if not, it appears he has a spot on TV ready and waiting.
