Mike McDaniel hasn’t shied away from sharing what’s on his mind since taking over in Miami, and Tyreek Hill seemed to appreciate the fact that his head coach called his salary into question after the Dolphins were eliminated from the playoffs at the hands of the Chiefs.
The Miami Dolphins had only managed to punch their ticket to the playoffs a single time in the decade before the franchise hired Mike McDaniel to take over for Brian Flores, and while the team capped off his inaugural season by losing five of its last six games, it was still able to earn a postseason berth after going 9-8.
In 2023, the Dolphins improved to 11-6 on the back of one of the most formidable offenses in the NFL, which was buoyed by a lethal wide receiver corp led by Jayden Waddle and Tyreek Hill.
The Dolphins made Hill the highest-paid WR in the league when they acquired him from the Chiefs around a month after McDaniel was hired, and while he’s largely lived up to expectations, he (and, to be fair, most of his teammates) failed to rise to the occasion when he faced off against his old team in the playoffs.
Miami was hoping to improve on its one-and-done showing against the Bills the previous season, but it failed to advance past the wild card round for the second consecutive year by falling to the eventual Super Bowl champions by a score of 26-7 in a contest where Hill scored the team’s only touchdown while being held to 62 yards on five receptions.
Based on what the speedy wideout had to say during an appearance on Million Dollaz Worth of Game, McDaniel was not thrilled with his production in the contest to the point where he suggested he wasn’t earning the approximately $31 million he received to play last year—a sentiment Hill appeared to take to heart.

Here’s what he had to say:
“He called me out. He was like, ‘Reek, bro, you’re supposed to be the best player in the f—ing league, and you’ve got this guy putting hands all over you like that. Man, we pay you all this money for what?’
For me, I love s— like that, because I’m gonna take that s— to heart and I’m gonna get better from that. That’s never gonna happen again to me in my life.”
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if that ends up being the case.
