Mike McDaniel continues to be the funniest personality in the NFL. He marches to the beat of his own drum and is not afraid to say what he wants to say or act how he wants to act.
His most recent viral moment is one of his greatest.
The 40-year-old head coach took a direct NSFW shot at Dan Marino prior to Sunday’s win over the Cowboys, albeit a playful one. McDaniel was mic’d up for HBO’s in-season ‘Hard Knocks,’ which also caught the hilarious exchange on film.
Marino was being honored on the field before kickoff. The crowd at Hard Rock Stadium went bonkers.
Tua Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill stood next to him. Behind the trio stood McDaniel.
Hill turned back to his head coach and said, “we even have Dan Marino!”
Mike McDaniel responded by shouting “Yeah, Dan Marino! F— your records, Dan! we’re coming for your records, Dan!”
Tagovailoa and Hill were geeked.
Breaking Marino’s records is no easy task!
The 62-year-old long-retired quarterback passed for 5,084 yards and 48 touchdowns in a single season. Those numbers still sit atop the record books in Miami.
Barring the greatest two-game stretch in NFL history, it will be virtually impossible for Tagovaiola to shatter either mark this year. McDaniel and his team will have to try again in 2024!
Dan Marino took the chance to gift his successors for Christmas prior to the game. As seen on ‘Hard Knocks,’ the Dolphins legend gifted the current quarterback room with some wine.
He also gave them some Isotoner gloves, which he famously promoted in the 1980s and 90s.
Should McDaniel’s pursuit of Marino’s records one day pay off and Tagovailoa — or his successor — breaks the Hall of Famer’s number, the Christmas gifts may not be as kind! They might get some coal for Christmas.
