German Media Displays Shocking Lack Of Humor By Stonewalling Mike McDaniel’s Attempt At Breaking The Ice

Usually, the games that the NFL exports overseas are largely average matchups. This weekend, however, the first-ever matchup in Frankfurt, Germany, is potentially the game of the season, as the Kansas City Chiefs will be taking on the Miami Dolphins.

On Wednesday, Miami Dolphins head coach took to the podium to address the media over in Germany and answer their questions. Albeit in his quirky Mike McDaniel fashion, he did what most regular people do in awkward situations and tried to break the ice by cracking a self-effacing joke.

The response he was met with, however, was as stone cold as the Berlin Wall, as not even the cricket in the back of the room let out a chuckle.

In the United States, especially in a professional situation, you’d usually be greeted by a few courtesy cackles to, if nothing else, avoid making the situation awkward.

Not in Germany, though. In Germany, if you’re coming to the mic with a one-liner, you better be Rodney Dangerfield levels of hilarious if you’re gonna earn a laugh.

“I know what you guys are thinking,” McDaniel began, “I’m bigger in person, you’re right.” The 40-year-old McDaniel apparently stands at 5′ 9″, 180lbs, although you can never really trust the internet with those sorts of statistics.

At this time, the 6-2 Chiefs are currently favored over the 6-2 Dolphins by 1.5 points. The winner of this game will also give themselves the inside trade on getting the #1 seed in the AFC.

Elsewhere in the conference, the AFC North-leading Baltimore Ravens and the AFC South-leading Jacksonville Jaguars are also both 6-2.
