The Strangest Items We Found From Former NBA Player Mike Muscala’s Massive Estate Sale

While he may not be headed for the Basketball Hall of Fame anytime soon, Mike Muscala‘s 10-year NBA career was certainly nothing to scoff at.

The former second-round pick out of Bucknell made a solid career for himself as a stretch four who played for seven different teams after being drafted by the Dallas Mavericks.

Muscala also became a cult hero for Philadelphia 76ers fans when he hit a game-winning 3-pointer that secured them the draft pick that would eventually become Tyrese Maxey and, to a degree, helped them land LeBron James.

Mike Muscala’s Estate Sale Is Full Of Strange Items

Muscala is now an assistant coach under Jordan Ott for the Phoenix Suns and recently sold his home in Cannon Falls, Minnesota.

In addition to the house, Muscala is selling seemingly anything and everything that was in the home in an estate sale. That includes a ton of former NBA gear as well as some memorabilia.

But it also includes several household items that display Muscala’s extremely eclectic interests and taste in decor. If you’d like to bid on any of the items, some of the auctions close at 8 p.m. ET on Sept. 2, so move quickly!

1) An Oddly Expensive Turtle Table Lamp

On its face, this item really isn’t all that weird. In fact, it feels like something that I feel like I would’ve seen in my grandparents’ house growing up, or a rental vacation cabin, which makes it extremely charming.

But what makes the listing strange is the insane price that the turtle lamp appears to be fetching. Bidding began on August 20 at just $5. It’s now up to $185.00!

Who is paying $185 for a glass turtle table lamp?! If the answer if you, please message us and explain why!

2) A Classic Nintendo Virtual Boy System From 1995

Muscala is clearly a huge video game fan, specifically, a Nintendo fan, according to the various items up for auction. But this is by far the coolest video game-related item up for auction.

“A very cool vintage Nintendo find! This lot includes a Nintendo Virtual Boy system with its distinctive red stereoscopic display, controller, and two games. Released in the mid-1990s, the Virtual Boy has become an unusual and highly recognizable piece of Nintendo gaming history,” the listing states.

As a Nintendo fan myself, I did not even know that the Virtual Boy was a thing that existed, in part because it was discontinued one year later. But given how popular VR goggles became recently, it’s clear Nintendo was ahead of its time with this one.

3) A Vintage CONN Alto Saxophone with Stand

I’m sorry, Mike Muscala, I was not familiar with your game!

Muscala’s estate sale includes several music-related items, including multiple record players and an extensive collection of albums. He also lists a guitar for sale.

But who knew that he (presumably) plays the saxophone?! Either that or he just likes to collect woodwind instruments for some reason.

The description lists the item as “a CONN alto saxophone with plenty of character and potential for the musician, collector, or instrument restorer. The saxophone is marked with the number 165722 and includes a stand. It does show age and use, and we noticed at least one component that appears to need repair as well as a key/button area that appears to be missing a piece.”

4) A 14-Pair Collection Of Game-Worn NBA Socks

As you can imagine, the auction is absolutely littered with NBA, college, and even high school gear from Muscala’s basketball career.

But this one is weird for several reasons. For one, if you’re buying used socks, we’re judging you heavily. But even if you’re into that type of thing, and want to claim you own game-worn socks from an NBA player, is it really that much of a flex to own game-worn socks from a journeyman power forward whose claim to fame is being an elite pull in a game of “Name Some Guys: NBA Edition?”

5) Black Wall Street: The Board Game – Second Edition

On its face, there’s really nothing strange about this item. I mean, it’s just a board game. But we do have several questions at play here.

1) Did anybody know that Black Wall Street: The Board Game was a thing that existed? Not only that, but it was also popular enough to get a second edition!

2) Mike Muscala is very much not a black guy. Now, does that restrict him from playing or enjoying the game? Of course not. And Black Wall Street was famously in Tulsa, Oklahoma. So it makes sense that Muscala would have interest in it given how much of his career he spent playing in Oklahoma City. But Muscala’s father also notoriously has expressed some … interesting … views on social media. So this one comes as a bit of a surprise.

3) The listing says the game is brand new and factory sealed. So Muscala has clearly never played. Did he just buy it for decor? What’s the deal here?

6) This Extremely Creepy Vintage Piggy Bank

I really don’t have a ton to add about this item, or much commentary, other than the fact that it scares the hell out of me.

The approximately 7-inch tall ceramic bank features a terrifying anthropomorphic pig that has four different emotions on each side: Glad, Sad, Mad, and Bad. All of which are equally scary.

On top of that, it’s not even functional! According to the listing, the bank doesn’t actually have a stopper on the bottom, so it’s just a decorative horror show.

7) A Custom Hand-Painted and Signed Super Mario Duffel Bag

Muscala’s auction is full of video games, game consoles, and gaming-related memorabilia. But this by far the weirdest video game-related item on sale.

It’s clear that the NBA veteran is a huge fan of the Super Mario Bros. franchise, so much so that he had a bag custom painted to feature the character. Perhaps the funniest aspect of this item is that it was initially listed as an authentic Maison Goyard designer bag only for someone to point out that it’s a knockoff, significantly decreasing the value of the item.

“Definitely not your average duffel bag!” the listing reads. “This bag has been custom hand-painted with a Super Mario theme, turning a quality piece of luggage into a one-of-a-kind piece of wearable pop art. It does need a little attention—the zipper requires repair—but the custom artwork is what makes this one special.”
