Monica McNutt believes Caitlin Clark needs more "accountability and self-awarness"
ESPN basketball analyst Monica McNutt is getting dragged by sports fans on social media for saying WNBA star Caitlin Clark needs to have more “accountability and self-awareness.” McNutt’s comments came after Clark said in an interview that the attention paid to her is “emotionally exhausting.”
During a sit-down interview with ESPN, Indiana Fever All-Star guard Caitlin Clark opened up about the attention paid to her by the media and the larger sports world and admitted it has been “emotionally exhausting.”
Not only is Clark highly scrutinized by the sports media world, but her career has been politically hijacked, too.
Republican lawmakers sent a letter to the WNBA seeking answers for what they claim to be racially-motivated attacks on Clark, which is the symptom of the larger disease that is Clark’s current position in the sociopolitical ecosystem.
“When I walk out of the locker room, I shouldn’t be, not fearful, of what the conversation is gonna be. But it’s emotionally exhausting. It’s draining. It makes your shoulders tense. Because people don’t want to talk about the basketball, they just wanna stir it up and make something else,” Clark told ESPN‘s Malika Andrews.
“I get people have a job to do, but at the same time, don’t make accusations about my character and who I am when you don’t know me.”

ESPN’s Monica McNutt was dragged on social media for saying Caitlin Clark needs to have more “accountability and self-awareness”
McNutt’s reactions to Clark’s comments were to turn the criticism back on her by saying that she needs to have more “accountability and self-awareness.”
“Caitlin Clark is 24. She is a shining star in the galaxy of the WNBA. But I do think as she continues to matriculate through this league, there’s room for a little bit more accountability and self-awareness in terms of her role in the larger sisterhood, if she sees it that way, in the WNBA,” McNutt said.

“It’s just obvious that ppl covering the league just don’t like Clark. The standard to which they expect from her is just not attainable and nothing she does will ever be enough,” one viral reaction on social media read.
“Accountability and self awareness in her role in the ‘sisterhood’ LMAOOO how about Monica open up threads after a game and see all the s— thats spewed at Caitlin then get back to us. Enough with this disingenuous act that there’s no vitriol coming Caitlin’s way,” a second added.
So far this season, her third in the WNBA, Clark is averaging 21 points, 7.9 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game.
