Beloved 2000’s band My Chemical Romance sent the millennial section of the internet into a frenzy recently when they announced plans for their “Long Live The Black Parade” tour in 2025. The tour is set to commemorate their seminal album, The Black Parade, and fans were already making plans to make sure they didn’t miss out.
However, as is often the case with these situations, Ticketmaster had other plans. Both the band and Ticketmaster agreed to use dynamic pricing for the tour, which meant that the cost of tickets would reflect the demand from fans.

“Artists can opt in or out of dynamic pricing when negotiating with Ticketmaster and can even negotiate the terms of how it works,” according to Cody Mello-Klein, a reporter for Northeastern Global News. “How many tickets will be sold at face value before dynamic pricing kicks in? Is there a ceiling for how high ticket prices can go? All of that is determined by artists, their management and Ticketmaster.”
Fans Slam Ticketmaster Over Insane My Chemical Romance Ticket Prices
Well, as you can imagine, there was plenty of demand for tickets for this tour. This meant that not only did the majority of tickets sell out (likely to resellers) before fans could get through, but also that when they did get through, the cost for tickets was astronomical.
Logged on to get My Chemical Romance tickets and decent seats are $500+ at face value. WtAF?

MCR tickets being T Swift prices is quite ridiculous and screams WE SOLD OUT. Please afford this $300-$700 a ticket for your dedication (not my own) to our emo band that’s now cool. You became a fan when it was slightly cringe but now that it’s cool give us money pic.twitter.com/9nvOd41yst

Ticket prices quickly skyrocketed, even before resalers could get their hands on them. Tickets for MCR’s show at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa began at $375. “Official platinum” seats are going for nearly $700, and that’s before fees are included.
Of course, the My Chemical Romance is not without blame. Oasis recently agreed not to use dynamic pricing for its reunion tour and even canceled tickets that were resold for well above market value. But MCR is not alone here. Friday’s ticket nightmare is just the latest in a worrying trend for concertgoers. Congress has attempted to curb the absurd stranglehold that Ticketmaster has on these events. But it has had little to no success in doing so.
So at this point, it doesn’t appear there’s much that fans can do. Either you take out a second mortgage to watch your favorite band play from the nosebleeds, or you just live with the fact that most of us have been priced out of live music.
Update 1: The “Long Live The Black Parade” tour is set to make just 10 stops. Each show is scheduled for either stadium or ballpark venues. For comparison’s sake, the band played the “Reunion” tour in 2022. That tour made 18 stops at smaller, indoor venues. That tour was originally planned for 2019, but was pushed back years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
While fans dealt with similar issues at the time, they pail in comparison to the current tour’s issues. The get-in price for several of those shows sat around $179 before fees.
Is that still ridiculous? Of course. But at least it’s a little more accessible for fans who don’t want to sacrifice a first-born.
