What should have been the biggest day of NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series driver Carson Kvapil‘s young career quickly took a turn for the worse on Saturday.
Kvapil, 23, is the son of former Cup Series driver Travis Kvapil and is currently in his second full-time season with Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s team, JR Motorsports.
Up until now, Kvapil had run 63 races without a victory. But he finally took home the checkered flag on Saturday, and did so in impressive fashion at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
There’s just one problem.
Carson Kvapil Violates Indianapolis Motor Speedway Rule About Burnout On Bricks
Indianapolis Motor Speedway first opened in 1909 and is one of the most famous racetracks not only in the United States, but the world.
It has been home to the Indianapolis 500 dating back to 1911, and NASCAR first started racing there in 1994.
Part of what makes the circuit special is the famed “yard of bricks” that runs across the start-finish line. The stretch contains hundreds of bricks used to build the original track more than a century ago.
Understandably, the owners and operators of the track are very protective of that history. As such, winners of races at the track are given just one rule to abide by: Do not, under any circumstances, do a burnout over the yard of bricks.
Doing so not only marks up the bricks, but can also risk damaging the surface.
Track operators even make a point to remind drivers of the rule before and after the race. Unfortunately for Kvapil, he missed the memo and proceeded to commit the cardinal sin of performing a burnout across the bricks.

Later in the evening, the track was forced to send workers out to repair and clean the surface. And Kvapil quickly caught plenty of heat from fans.
“These are the same low IQ morons who, if you invited them over for a party, would trash your house and then laugh about it,” one fan wrote. “Wonder what he’d think if I went over to his house and p*ssed on his living room carpet. Sort of the same thing.”
“Tantamount to an opening band trashing their hotel room after a concert, thinking they’re big rock stars,” wrote another.

Ultimately, it was an unintentional mistake from Kvapil, who seemingly got caught up in the moment. But he undoubtedly lost a number of fans in the process, even if it seems silly to others.
