NASCAR teams put a lot of miles on their car haulers going from track to track for 11 months of the year. So it is rather surprising that incidents like what happened to the Alpha Prime Racing hauler this week don’t happen more often.
While traveling over 2,000 miles across the country for a brand-new NASCAR street-course race at the Naval Base Coronado in San Diego, California, the Alpha Prime Racing hauler had what they called on social media, “our first accident of the weekend.”
While traveling through four lanes of traffic on the highway, a car in one of the left-hand lanes, somehow, out of nowhere, lost a wheel. A Jeep following the car sent the wheel bouncing up off the ground, off the center lane guard rail, and straight into the path of the approaching NASCAR hauler.
So far, there has been no word on whether or how much damage the Alpha Prime Racing hauler or any of the other vehicles involved in the bizarre accident suffered.
Caesar Bacarella and Tommy Joe Martins share ownership of Alpha Prime Racing. This type of accident surely wasn’t in their budget when they planned out the trip across the country. Both of the team’s drivers, Brennan Poole in the number 44 and Lavar Scott in the number 45, participate in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series.
The crazy incident spawned numerous racing-related jokes on social media
Naturally, such a wild incident brought out a lot of jokesters on social media… and several yellow flag GIFs.
“Dale Jr. ‘OHWEGOTACRASH,'” one fan commented.
“The car driver should get a one year penalty from driving for having loose lug nuts,” read another comment.
“You picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel,” wrote multiple people who obviously used to watch NASCAR races when Darrell Waltrip was an analyst.
