NASCAR Cup Series Champ Joey Logan Calls Out Atlanta Braves Legend Chipper Jones In Bizarre Exchange

Off the race track, reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion Joey Logano is one of the nicest people you’ll ever come across. But the moment Logano puts his helmet on and climbs behind the wheel, he becomes a different animal entirely, something Logano will readily admit. On Sunday, Logano’s teammate at Team Penske, Austin Cindric, found that out that hard way, which eventually led to a bizarre interaction between Logano and Baseball Hall of Fame member Chipper Jones.

Cindric, who went on to win the race at Talladega, was positioned behind Logano as the field came to the start-finish line to get the second stage of the race. Rather than push Logano to the lead, however, Cindric pulled out of line, leading Bubba Wallace to win the stage. Cindric said that he was catching Logano at too fast a rate and bumping him would’ve only caused a wreck. Logano, however, didn’t see things that way.

“Way to go, Austin,” Logano said over his radio. “Way to go you dumb f—. Way to f—ing go. What a stupid s—. God! He just gave it to him. Gave it to him. Gave a Toyota the stage win. Nice job. Way to go. What the f—.”

That’s where Jones comes in. The Atlanta Braves legend is an avowed NASCAR fanatic and took to X to express his displeasure with Logano.

Jones then followed up by sharing video of Logano’s post-race interview and stating that he “Couldn’t even congratulate @AustinCindric in the post race! #teamplayer At least he mentioned being selfish in the interview. Credit!”

Joey Logano Shoots Back At Chipper Jones Over Criticism Of In-Race Blow Up

Logano and Cindric did speak eventually, and both claim to have worked out their differences. But Logano still isn’t happy with what Jones had to say.

“Has Chipper Jones ever driven a race car at Talladega?” he asked during a SiriusXM radio appearance on Tuesday.  “That would be my first question. I’m pretty certain he hasn’t. That’s like me saying something about baseball. I know nothing about baseball. That’s like me saying something that he did something in baseball that was wrong. That doesn’t matter.”

But Logano didn’t stop there. Instead, he said that Jones was uniquely qualified not to speak on the matter because of his professional sports career.

“You would think somebody that has been in professional sports and has been in meetings like that would probably take a step back and say, ‘Man, there’s probably more to the story here than what there is,’” Logano said. “I’m surprised it went that way. Maybe he was just bored. I don’t know what his situation is. I tell you I don’t care.”

Both Jones and Logano are legends of their respective sports. So you can understand where the passion comes from. But it’s still bizarre to see the two go at one another.
