NBA Fans React To Awful Injury News About Charlotte Hornets Superstar LaMelo Ball

Maybe Michael Jordan is just cursed?

The six-time NBA champion and perhaps the greatest of all-time as a player hasn’t had quite the same success as as owner.

Jordan purchased the Charlotte Hornets, then the Charlotte Bobcats, in 2006. He later acquired full control of the team in 2010. But in the 16 years since his involvement, Charlotte has made the NBA Playoffs just three times. The Hornets have not won a single playoff series in that time.

Charlotte appeared to take a major step forward in the 2021-22 season. The Hornets finished over .500 for the first time in six years and LaMelo Ball was blossoming into a superstar. Pair that with electric wing player Miles Bridgers and it looked like the Hornets may be cooking with gas.

Then the offseason hit.

Bridges was arrested and later pleaded “no contest” to domestic violence charges against the mother of his child. He had been a free agent and the expectation was that he would return to Charlotte. He remains unsigned currently.

That took the wind out of the sales of the Hornets who began the season slowly without Bridges as well as Ball, who was dealing with an injury.

But Ball eventually returned and the Hornets had recently won five straight games. While playoffs are already out of the question, it was an encouraging sign.

Then, this happened…

Ball rolled his ankle during a 1117-106 victory over the Detroit Pistons and was forced to leave the game. The news only got worse from there.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported Ball suffered a fractured right ankle. The injury will keep him out for the final 19 games of the season.

Fans couldn’t believe their luck, or lack of it.

Ball will now have missed time due to injuries to both ankles. All that while brother Lonzo deals with a potentially career-ending knee injury in Chicago.

It’s a sad scene for two of the league’s most exciting players.
