There has been plenty of talk about teams in new cities recently. Many assumed the Timberwolves were going to move when they were recently purchased. The San Antonio Spurs sparked some theories today with their map of Texas. However, instead of teams moving, the NBA could be expanding.

The NBA hasn’t added an expansion team to their ranks since 2004 and haven’t introduced 2 in the same season since the Raptors and Grizzlies in 1995. According to Portland sports radio host John Canzano, that’s about to change.

He reported today that the NBA is expected to announce a pair of expansion teams with one headed to Las Vegas and the other going to Seattle.

The city of Las Vegas getting an NBA team really isn’t much of a surprise at this point. There had been rumors about the Timberwolves or Spurs moving there in the past and putting a team in Vegas makes plenty of sense for the NBA.

The Golden Knights and Raiders have already proven what sports fans have known for years. The professional sports world deserves teams in Vegas. The Knights and Raiders have been huge hits in Vegas and the Raiders are even currently the hottest ticket in the NFL.

For Seattle, this is a long awaited return. Fans in the city never wanted to lose the Sonics when they left for Oklahoma City. Putting an expansion team in the city would give fans a new franchise to get behind and would reward a rabid fanbase.

Once we get an official announcement these franchises can start working to make debuts a little bit more similar to Vegas’ most recent expansion team than Seattle’s.
