From 1970 to 2001, the University of Nebraska football program was an astounding 330–60–5.

From 2017 to 2022, the University of Nebraska football program has gone 23-45.

So, needless to say, the Cornhuskers, who have won 46 conference championships and five national championships, are looking for some help.

They have already jettisoned head coach Scott Frost after he went 16–31 at his alma mater over four-plus seasons and replaced him with former Matt Ruhle, who as the Carolina Panthers head coach from 2020 to 2022 went 11-27.

Desperate times call for desperate measures and things are getting pretty desperate in Lincoln.

Which is why, one could assume, they have already made a scholarship offer to wide receiver and defensive back Tory Pittman III of Buffett Middle School.

You read that right. He is in middle school – the eighth grade to be exact.

Pittman, who is listed at 5-11, 165 pounds, is expected to attend Omaha Central High School… next year. Former Nebraska standouts Ahman Green and Calvin Jones also played for Omaha Central.

“After talking with @Omeezi_ I’m honored to say I’ve received my first offer from my home state the University of Nebraska. Thanks @evancooper2 and @RingsNthingsCA. #GBR,” Pittman wrote on Twitter over the weekend.

@Omeezi_ is Nebraska football’s director of player personnel Omar Hales.

Pittman, who plays for plays for Nebraska Elite 7v7, does not yet have a rating for any of the major scouting services.

He is also at least the second eighth grader to have already received a football scholarship offer from the University of Nebraska.

Whether the current/new coaching staff is even still at Nebraska in four years when these two kids actually graduate from high school will certainly affect whether or not they actually attend the university when the time comes for them to commit.
